Scarecrows in the Forest

Get your Spooky On at the 5th annual “Scarecrows in the Forest” Art Exhibit &Contest. Around a corner, in a meadow or right in front of you, made from natural, recycled, and repurposed material, scarecrows are found throughout the Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. Cash prizes will be awarded with Best in Show chosen by garden visitors.

The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden’s annual Scarecrows in the Forest event features locally designed scarecrows from individuals, creative professionals, organizations and businesses. Scarecrow creators use natural and recycled materials. Cash prizes will be awarded in each of three categories: school-age groups; not-for-profit groups; and businesses, amateur individuals and creative professionals. Best in Show will be chosen by garden visitors.

  • Adults: $10
  • Seniors: $7
  • Child: Free

 

CALL FOR ARTISTS: The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is calling for artists, amateurs, students, businesses and professionals to create for the 5th Annual 2023 “Scarecrows in the Forest” Art Exhibit and Contest.

Registration required and deadlines on Aug. 30. Installations by appointment through Sept. 1.

Scarecrows will be created using natural, recycled, and repurposed materials, each entry eligible for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & Best in Show prizes for entries with CASH Prizes.
Three categories to register: Not-for-Profit Fee: $10.00;  School age Fee: $25.00;  Business & Professional Fee: $50.00

BECOME A MENTOR:

Three art mentors needed to work one of three different groups of students in three workshops over three weeks to design, create from natural or recycled materials (only), three new scarecrow sculptures for display in the annual Scarecrows in the Forest Art Exhibit at the Tropical Forest.

The fall Scarecrows workshops will start in August with the scarecrow sculptures installed into the exhibit Sept. 2.

A $275.00 stipend will be offered to mentor artists for their expertise and time. Art supplies provided.
