• Scarecrows will be subject to the weather for three months. They need to be constructed with weather-resistant materials and clothing that does not fade easily.
  • Scarecrows must be free standing. Use of PVC and rebar in a container is recommended.
  • Stuffing can be anything. Stuffing of recycled plastic bags will last longer.
  •  NATURAL AND RECYCLED MATERIALS ARE REQUESTED.
  • Facial expressions are the first thing a viewer will notice. Head options include milk jug, gourd, wood ball, pillow case, burlap bags, etc.
  • Ideas for hair: yarn, broom, corn, plants, seaweed, moss, old mop head
  • Clothes – check out thrift stores
  • Scarecrows will be on exhibit in the garden for three months. Make sure your display is secure. Remember the wind will blow anything not secured well and can rip things pinned at the corners.
  • Remember the details: a glittery pair of shoes for example
  • Do not use latex gloves as they will quickly disintegrate in the weather
  • Spray clothing with Scotch Guard to prevent mildew on the inside and outside of clothing
